With one year to go until the 23rd World Petroleum Congress, the organizing team and other key stakeholders from around the world came together in Houston for a State of the Congress from December 8-12.

The State of the Congress brought together the World Petroleum Council Secretariat, 23rd WPC Organizing Committee, 23rd WPC Board of Directors and Congress Program Committee, as well as event partners MCI, GES, IDEAS, E3 and Staging Solutions. The four-day program was an opportunity for all parties to review progress so far, as well as align on the strategic priorities and milestones for the coming year. The team behind the Congress has scaled up over the past few months, so the gathering was also a chance to meet and interact with new members.

Among the key moments of the week were:

– A walking tour of the George R. Brown Convention Canter, allowed participants a chance to visualize the eventual layout, flow and look and feel of the Congress

– A media briefing by Tor Fjaeran, President of the World Petroleum Council and Jeff Shellebarger, Chairman of the 23rd WPC Organizing Committee, with representation from Uwem Ukpong, Chief Global Operations Officer of Baker Hughes, where attending news, business and trade media representatives heard more on the likely topics of the Congress, what the event will mean for Houston and more. Watch the full media briefing below.

– The final selection of papers and posters by the Congress Program Committee, for what looks set to be an outstanding technical program.

We wish you all a happy holiday and look forward kicking off 2020 with renewed vigor.
